Artist Notes: This print is titled “The Dark Side of the Moon” and features extinct animals of particular species, including the North African Elephant, the Western Black Rhino and the Passenger Pigeon to name only three.
I wrote this poem to go with the print:
And so the creatures of the former
Squirm and squeeze
Dense in their numbers
Soft in their flesh.
They sit in our darkness
In our folklore
Yet we are told
There is no dark side
Of the moon.
If we are all stardust (to dust)
Then why do I wake
in the night
Looking to the sky
For those missing constellations?
